Job Search Strategies for Success

Job Search Strategies for Success Job Search Strategies for Success 6Job hunting can be a tedious task, and with hiring trends continuing to stagnate, some job seekers are losing their focus. So in an environment where you are sending out hundreds of applications, not getting a response or going to interviews, or not getting a call back, how do you continue to be a focused job seeker when you feel like it is all going wrong? Create a job seeking strategy! Having a strategy or a plan can help in finding you your dream job. Here are five steps to include when creating a job seeking strategy: Choose the right timing.  Search and apply for jobs when you are most alert and productive. Maybe you are most awake in the morning, maybe in the afternoon. Use that time of the day to sit down and look for jobs online or make your rounds to hiring companies in your area. A positive and alert personality leaves a better impression. Keep an open mind.  DonĂ¢€™t limit yourself to job titles you feel comfortable with or you think you will be qualified for. Titles do not always define the job responsibilities or qualifications. Using specific job titles can drastically limit the number of positions you find. Think outside the box for other potential titles that could fit what you are looking for. Customize.  Create customized cover letters and resumes for EVERY application you send in. Whether these documents are being read by humans or being scanned by Applicant Tracking Systems, customized letters that are free from errors show employers that you have attention to detail, care about the position, and want to be involved with their organization. At the end of the day, this can be the difference between an interview and the trash bin. Target your applications.  Apply to jobs that fit your qualifications, not every single job ad you come across. The time you spend sending out hundreds of blanket documents to companies you have no interest in and jobs you are not qualified for could be time invested in a few well-matched opportunities you have a lot of potential of landing. Think quality, not quantity. Network. Take advantage of networking opportunities, even when you hate networking. The more you engage in targeted networking the more real connections you will make that could produce sustainable leads. DonĂ¢€™t be afraid to toot your own horn either, but keep it professional. To keep your head in the game, make a plan and be persistent. Set a time of day that works best for you, attend networking events, apply to positions that match your qualifications, and create customized documents. The hard work you put in now will pay off later. Do you have job search strategies? Share your tips and ideas in the comment section below!
